New Moon Trailer

What techniques does this trailer use to persuade an audience to see the film?

The techniques used in the new moon trailer to persuade an audience to watch the film is the fast movement of the shots in it.In the trailer a minimal view of what the film is about is shown and in the new moon trailer you must keep up with what is happening because it moves quickly telling you that the film will involve in a lot of drama and action scenes. As this is happening characters voice are in the background to translate on what could possibly be going on from their scripts. The audience will automatically want to know what exactly is happening and why it is. This happens to make the viewer want to watch the film even more. The soundtrack for the trailer is a fast upbeat sound to along with what is happening however it is a non-digetic sound because it is put into place after production in the editing process of the trailer. Towards the end of the trailer after all the exciting scenes with fast music, the trailer goes quiet as it ends. This happens so that the audience can feel suspense and reflect on whether they will watch the film or not. The trailer also mentions that the film was also a book previously that was awarded worlds best seller, which credits the film.

BLACKPOOL (VAN)

What techniques does the opening sequence use to appeal to a weekday mainstream audience?

The opening of the television programme Blackpool, opens with a series of shots of a setting which is similar to Las Vegas. This is not Las Vegas, but is Blackpool, however, it is showing the similarities the both places have of glitz and glamour. The producers include this in the opening sequence to attract the attention of all mainstream audiences because they know that Las Vegas will catch anyone's attention with the bright lights and colour. Also the music in the opening scene is a song familiar with everyone 'Elvis Presley - Viva Las Vegas'. it will get the audience moving to the song and eventually draw them into watch the show and hopefully continue watching all the episode. It uses these techniques in the opening sequence because mainstream audience are a wide range of different backgrounds so they need to find something in common in its opening sequence that  grab the audience attention.

How does the extract follow the Codes and Conventions of an opening sequence?

in the beginning of the open sequence, BBC is shown just before the title. Audiences will be familiar with what the sign shows that it is a BBC production showing on either BBC1 or BBC2. A theme song is used which follows codes and conventions of an opening sequence. The theme song entertains audiences as the theme song is very catchy and sung by a famous singer called Elvis Presley which many audiences can relate to as they would have listened to his music. If the audience member does not relate to Elvis they have most likely heard the song 'Viva Las Vega'.  A short introduction for all characters is used so that the audiences are familiar with the actors/actresses.The setting of the program being Blackpool is also portrayed as being as a glamorous place which may intrigue audiences to go visit the famous city. The title of the program comes up on the screen in bright colours so that the audiences can see this and appeals to them which encourage audiences to watch this program.

What does the text tell us about the media institutions involved?

People living in the UK would know that Blackpool is not the best place to visit in England. However, the BBC portrays Blackpool as being a positive place. They use the city of Las Vegas as an example and change Blackpool into a glamorous place to be. As this program is shown on during the week-day it shows the BBC is trying to appeal to a variety of audiences. audiences can very from housewives, unemployed people and possibly pensioners.

GHD Textual Analayis Questions (VAN)

GHD

The advertisment shown on E4 / E4+1 of GHD Straightners use persuasive language to attract viewer into buying their product with a soft tone of voice showing images of looking superior to others around you. The advert shows you images of how it feels to look good by using GHDs'. It uses the theory of esteem needs to build your won confidence as shown by the woman in the advertisment.

The story line of the advertisment catches the viewers attention to continue watching the advert to see what they are selling. if the viewer is a female and interest would show because as the product is directed for females. As the advert continues the language and the superior women in the advert would make the the viewer desire to be like them. This would then make the viewer hopefully puchase the product and making the advertisment a success.

The advertisement shows that this product is used for women only because the characters in the advert were only females useing the product. They were matured women however they way they used the product was to make them feel good about them self to look beautiful and confident.

Media Institution: What issues of regulation and censorship does this ad raise and what does it tell us about the values of the channels on which it was broadcast?
Issues raised against the GHD advert was the religious language was used 'Thou shall not'. the advert had made its own twist to the 10 commandments that christians believe strongly about and GHD and re-worded them to promote their language. They way it was used also to promoting things such as sex and violence e.g 'Thou shall not steal her best friends boyfriend' showing a women and a man in a sexual way also, 'Thou shall not use her sisters things without asking' showing two sisters fighting but also wearing a minimum amount of clothes. This showed women in a negative way of dealing and presenting them selves.

Because the advert was shown on E4/ E4 + 1 it would reflect on the viewers that watch E4 if they would continously show it on this channel it must be applying to the females that would want to make them selves feel good from something that will make them look beautiful on the outside rather than the inside.
