Textual analysis of T-Mobile Dance Advertisement
Advertisements all have a similar way of advertising their products. In an advert there would be a voice over of some one giving a description of the product or the service with a character in the advert using the product or service.
In the T-mobile advert it uses different techniques then a usual advert would use. The product is not shown until the end of the advert however in the beginning of the advert there are ordinary working people shown going to work or other places via the Liverpool St. train station. When the music starts and they start to dance together and as the advert goes on more and more people join sharing the moment together. When the advert comes to and end the people that was involved with the dancing use their phones to call friends or family members to share the experience with them that is when it becomes evident that they are using a T-Mobile network when the slogan shows 'Lifes For Sharing - T Mobile' with the T Mobile sound effect.
The T Mobile network is represented as a fun, sharing, friendly easy going network with the advert they have used to sell their product. Showing that this is the type of relationship you would want to have with the network. It implies that the network is different because they showed a different way to advertise it to its customers and its target market.
T-Mobiles' target audience they are trying to attract are the same type of the people that they show in the advertisement. Young adults as well as older, matured adults.

The Sun.

Media Form
How does the advert use codes and conventions to appeal to its audience?
The different types of techniques used to appeal to the audience are the celebrities that are shown in the newspaper during the advert. People such as Simon Cowell and Rihanna showing X-Factor and Football sports show what type of audience The Sun is targeted for. The newspaper shows that they specify in different genres to imply the different audiences that can appeal to The Sun. The advertisement uses a person flicking through the pages to show what kind of genres are in the paper appealing to a broader audience. There is a person most likely a male is shown but only from the hands where it is most important because he is going through the pages, he hands out different pages inside the newspaper to share with other people information they read as people will do when they gossip. This shows that the audience for the newspaper are people who have an interest in gossip stories and celebrities of the glamour life.
Representation
How is the new technology represented in the advertisement?
At the start of the advertisement it shows that the newspaper is able to be folded so that can be fitted for the pocket and able to carry with you wherever. It is an easy access and has many other papers inside to share out more information. It gives the audience information of how wide the paper is and the professional ink used for the images which takes up most space in the newspaper. It is importantly mentioned that it is recyclable therefore it is represented as environmentally friendly. Also the advertisement tells the audience that it is a newer version, ‘Version. 4.0’ this means that it is more updated and new than the previous paper.
Media Institutions
What does the advertisement tell you about the values and ideologies of The Sun newspaper?
The Sun focus on more gossip than serious news as shown in the advertisement. Most of the pages shown consisted of celebrity gossip, Sport and games with wide pictures taking up majority of the pages only showing little text. This implies that The Sun is more concerned with the looks of things rather than the facts and opinions of people. This is because in the advertisement I saw a lot of imagery wide throughout the pages and a column maybe less about an article with such a large image.
Audience
How does the advertisement appeal to its audience?
The advertisement appeals to its audience because it shows celebrities in the advert of people whom they would relate or take an interest in. The X-Factor and Football was shown. This implies that the audience includes both male and females. Males are interested in the sport, and both male and female have an interest in X-Factor. Also Rihanna and Robbie Williams were both shown not only for the interest of music but the different genres. Robbie Williams is more of an older generation of Pop music whereas Rihanna would target young teens on the R’n’B Pop element. Also the advertisement mentioned a page of different word games for targeting at those who read the complete newspaper specifically those who are on travels that have spare time on their hands something The Sun can offer to them.

New Moon Trailer
What techniques does this trailer use to persuade an audience to see the film?
The techniques used in the new moon trailer to persuade an audience to watch the film is the fast movement of the shots in it.In the trailer a minimal view of what the film is about is shown and in the new moon trailer you must keep up with what is happening because it moves quickly telling you that the film will involve in a lot of drama and action scenes. As this is happening characters voice are in the background to translate on what could possibly be going on from their scripts. The audience will automatically want to know what exactly is happening and why it is. This happens to make the viewer want to watch the film even more. The soundtrack for the trailer is a fast upbeat sound to along with what is happening however it is a non-digetic sound because it is put into place after production in the editing process of the trailer. Towards the end of the trailer after all the exciting scenes with fast music, the trailer goes quiet as it ends. This happens so that the audience can feel suspense and reflect on whether they will watch the film or not. The trailer also mentions that the film was also a book previously that was awarded worlds best seller, which credits the film.

GHD Textual Analayis Questions (VAN)
GHD

The advertisment shown on E4 / E4+1 of GHD Straightners use persuasive language to attract viewer into buying their product with a soft tone of voice showing images of looking superior to others around you. The advert shows you images of how it feels to look good by using GHDs'. It uses the theory of esteem needs to build your won confidence as shown by the woman in the advertisment.
The story line of the advertisment catches the viewers attention to continue watching the advert to see what they are selling. if the viewer is a female and interest would show because as the product is directed for females. As the advert continues the language and the superior women in the advert would make the the viewer desire to be like them. This would then make the viewer hopefully puchase the product and making the advertisment a success.
The advertisement shows that this product is used for women only because the characters in the advert were only females useing the product. They were matured women however they way they used the product was to make them feel good about them self to look beautiful and confident.
Media Institution: What issues of regulation and censorship does this ad raise and what does it tell us about the values of the channels on which it was broadcast?
Issues raised against the GHD advert was the religious language was used 'Thou shall not'. the advert had made its own twist to the 10 commandments that christians believe strongly about and GHD and re-worded them to promote their language. They way it was used also to promoting things such as sex and violence e.g 'Thou shall not steal her best friends boyfriend' showing a women and a man in a sexual way also, 'Thou shall not use her sisters things without asking' showing two sisters fighting but also wearing a minimum amount of clothes. This showed women in a negative way of dealing and presenting them selves.
Because the advert was shown on E4/ E4 + 1 it would reflect on the viewers that watch E4 if they would continously show it on this channel it must be applying to the females that would want to make them selves feel good from something that will make them look beautiful on the outside rather than the inside.

Monday 1st November 'KICKS'
Shot Type / Camera Angles & Movements.
The opening scene of the trailer, there are a lot of close-ups to the characters movements of hands and face. As the trailer continues, there are a series of low angle shots and high angle shots shown. There are not a lot of fast camera movements shown in the trailer, all the shots are shown to be very slow which creates the suspense atmosphere of watching the trailer.
Mise-en-scene.
The colour of the trailer shows that the film is not glamour and bright with the colour the frame captures. It is pretty much dark, grey and gloomy capturing the British type weather because it is a British film. The characters in the film that are shown in the trailer are presented as young British girls by the way they dress, very common but not too old for their age which is presumably 16. Within the first few seconds of the trailer you are shown that the main character is a student at high school with a shot of her walking in her school uniform.
Sound
The trailer opens with a voice over a young girl which sounds as if she is scared whispering, "We love you Liverpool, we do". This continues as different shots are shown, which then a beat of music drops in. A commentator starts to speak over the music, we cannot see his face but only hear his face. As more characters come out in the trailer the music starts to become more soft. However as the trailer continues, the music becomes more stronger and negative as they show the the suspense and trouble in the film.
Editing
The shots are placed in a particular way, to show effect in the film. In the trailer the first few shots you could slowly pick up on what the film is about. However from the start of the trailer compared to the end you would have never known what would happen, therefore the trailer causes excitement for the audience to want to watch the film and is intriguing.
Genre
The film is presented as a thriller, that would probably have low affects on people however would shock people about reality. Al ot of teenage girls have obsessions with famous celebrities, and the film shows how obsession can be dangerous to both themselves and the persons involved.
Narrative
The Trailer starts off with Todorov Theory' of having a equilibrium of a calm peaceful settings, which introduces the characters. Then it gets interrupted by a disequilibrium of a problem which arises between the characters. However with Todrovs' Theory there is a new equilibrium but the trailer does not show this however it may be in the film but because this is a snippet of the movie not too much information about the film is wanted to be shown that may ruin it for the viewers'.
